Course breakdown
Weighted points = credits × grade value. GPA = total weighted points ÷ total credits.
This is the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. Schools using AP/IB boosts (+1 for honors), percentage grades or different plus/minus values will report slightly different GPAs.

Formula
GPA = Σ(credits × grade points) ÷ Σ(credits)
- • Convert each letter grade to its 4.0-scale value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, … F = 0.0).
- • Multiply each grade value by the course credits to get weighted points.
- • Divide the sum of weighted points by the total credits attempted.
Pro tips
- • Credits matter: an A in a 4-credit course lifts GPA more than an A in a 1-credit lab.
- • Repeated courses: many schools replace the old grade — this calculator averages what you enter.
- • Planning a target GPA? Work backwards: points needed = target × total planned credits.
