Formula comparison
Population mean eGFR: 20-29 yr 116 · 30-39 yr 107 · 40-49 yr 99 · 50-59 yr 93 · 60-69 yr 85 · 70+ yr 75.
eGFR is interpreted alongside urine protein tests and trends over time — a single value does not diagnose kidney disease. Estimates for informational purposes only — not medical advice.

Formula
CKD-EPI: eGFR = 141 × (SCr/κ)^α × 0.993^age × 1.018 [female] × 1.159 [Black], κ = 0.9 (male) / 0.7 (female), α = −0.411 (male) / −0.329 (female) below κ, else −1.209 · MDRD: 175 × SCr^−1.154 × age^−0.203 × 0.742 [female] × 1.212 [Black]
- • Pick the κ threshold and exponent for gender; use α below κ and −1.209 at or above it.
- • Multiply the base 141 by the creatinine ratio power and the 0.993-per-year age decay.
- • Apply the female (1.018) and Black (1.159) multipliers as applicable.
Pro tips
- • A GFR above 60 with no proteinuria is usually adequate for most patients.
- • GFR naturally declines with age — compare against the population mean for your age band.
